The multitouch table is a 44" interactive display which was build to experiment with new ways of interaction. It engages users to work together in a natural way without keyboard and mouse. Part of our objective was to incorporate smartphones and tablets so that users can share their own content with each other. A combination of a touch friendly plexiglas, an infrared camera, LED's, RFID readers and and short throw beamer make this story possible.
Tables provide us not only with a surface to work or eat on but also invite for collaboration and social sharing. This is exactly the idea that went behind this (multitouch) table. A circular menu design makes sure it is easy to control from all sides of the table. And by using RFID readers, everyone is able to share and receive files or images.
If you are interested in creating your own multitouch table, check out the NUI Group (Natural User Interface) website. The Community Core Vision software can provide help with tracking finger data. Because this software handles the coordination tracking, you can now use any language to make your table come to life.
